A recording of a concert performed by folk-electronic duo SAYLU at the opening of the exhibition «Sanctuary.» The performance took
place at the Ploshchad Mira Museum Center on June 26, 2025—almost a
century after the founding of the Stolby Nature Reserve, to which both
the exhibition and the performance are dedicated.
The musicians
presented a folk-ambient program titled «Into the Woods», using the
sounds of bass guitar, topshuur, ethnic percussion, and analog
synthesizers to convey the atmosphere of Siberian nature. They also
incorporated field recordings made directly in the reserve.
Sometimes,
when visiting Stolby, tourists and residents of Krasnoyarsk feel fear
from being deep in the taiga among the rocks. There is a belief that
such experiences are connected with the mystical and the inexplicable.
The concept of the performance was to musically portray the transition
from a primitive sense of the otherworldly to solitude with nature and
inner peace.
